I wanted to send you an update of tonight’s meeting.
In tonight’s session, we went into another layer of examining ourselves. The ladies were extremely receptive and the worksheets really helped them to identify how they may have dysfunctional behaviors.
Many of the ladies identified with parentification, especially from a cultural standpoint. One participant said she thought this was normal because in her culture, the oldest child is trained to look after the younger siblings.
Because of Dr. Kaye, the participants were able to connect the feelings of pressure, stress, the need to be perfect, insecurities, and many more dysfunctional behaviors to the behaviors and responses outlined in the ReClaim program. We encouraged them to read the books that were suggested, “Co-Dependent No More.” We also redirected them to the website for upcoming events and to stay posted for the next support group.
I also mentioned incest among kids, as outlined in this week’s session. I reminded them of what you say about children acting out of the environment saturated with sexual dysfunction.
We always reiterate the following:
• What’s said in ReClaim, stays in ReClaim.
• Honor the Process.
• Put your whole self in.
I believe we have achieved one of the main goals in ReClaim – for everyone to know they are in a safe place, there is no judgment, and they are not alone.
I really see how each piece and part of the ReClaim Program has its place in creating a healthy environment to heal from childhood sexual abuse. Even snacking together is a proven success to build camaraderie among the ladies.
Thank you, thank you for this LIFE-CHANGING program!
